all is well

well i'm back again!

bethany got on fine at the hospital. she had put on 4kilo's in weight which wasn't too good but we are getting used to that now. they done a blood test for this reason to check her thyroid gland medication is enough. i wouldn't be surprised if it isn't though as they have never changed the dose and she has been on them for a good 6 years now. it was quite funny when they took the blood...not for bet-bet but for everyone else. picture this is you can-me,16 stone, in my nice white gypsy skirt, rolling around the floor trying to keep her still for the doctor to put in the needle!! you should of been there to see it...i didn't look feminine when they had finished...more like someone who had been wearing the same skirt for 5 days...i was black!! no wonder people get MRSA in hospital it didn't look as though it had been swept let alone washed in weeks. they have also prescribed her some sleeping medication called melatonin. this drug is unlicensed oin the UK but widely used in the US, maybe some of you over the sea know of this?

On a brighter note i spoke to the deputy head at bet-bets school today and voiced my concers about bet-bet haveing sex education. i was really brave and said i didn't feel she was age appropriate to be taught such things. i have given them permission to discuss puberty, periods, and what is appropriate and unappropriate behaviour from other people and how she should act in certain circumstances. the school were very good and even agreed that bethany really wasn't mentally developed to learn about such things just yet, they said there is always a few that aren't ready for such information and it would be no problem excluding her, and others, from the lesson. thanks everyone who commented on this matter yesterday, you all gave me the courage to stand up and be heard...if i don't protect her nobody would!!

i hope you are all well and have had a good day. love and warm feelings

I'm glad the hospital went well this morning, can just imagine you rolling around in your skirt though!!  Lol!!
Well done you for speaking to the deputy head about the sex education thing.  I know it's not always easy to voice your concerns like that.  And I'm glad that they agreed with you :o)

So happy all is well for Bethany...great news.  We had the same papers come home yesterday about the talk with all the kids about sex ed.  And this one we have is in Kindergarten...  I think they, by law have to send it out to all class grades.  Big decisions to make on that note...for all parents.
You have a great day!!!!
Take care,
Joyce

You now know NOT to wear a white skirt when taking Bethany for blood test! : )
Sounds like you were been a wrestler!!Its great you have sorted the sex education lessons out.It does take courage to voice your opinion to the teacher but after all you are the parent and you know Bethany better than anyone. The lessons she will be having seem appropiate enough.Bet you feel better now.

Well done for speaking to the Deputy Head - if you don't no one else will...When my Husband was in Critical care one of the cleaners picked a pen up off the floor and put back in the nurses desk..I ask you - say no more about MRSA...Ally

Oh dear, I have a mental picture of you wrestling around on the floor now.  You are quite right, our hospitals are not clean enough by any standard.  Glad it all went so well though for Bethany - did you spoil her afterwards, I know I would have done. Very well done for speaking up to the staff and it is great to know that they understand and agree, another problem out of the way - great!

That is good that you were able to come up with a compromise with the school.  Even special children need to know certain things for their own welfare and protection, however there are some things that just are not neccesary for them to know.  Many parents feel they must accept the school's agenda for their children, I'm glad you approached them.  They can only generalize and need input from families on what is best for the individual child.  You did great.  Dorn
